I am an Associate Professor and Research Leader of the Center for Care Research, South (UiA), and an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

I am a sociologist and health services researcher, with over 15 years of experience conducting research on a variety of aging health and social policy issues; using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods in community-based participatory research and program evaluation.

My Dissertation, “Systems Advocacy and the Local Long Term Care Ombudsman,” was published in 2008 and resulted in two peer reviewed journal articles. Following my dissertation, I built a successful, stable, and impactful research program in the United States and look forward to doing the same in Norway. I have served as principal investigator (PI) on 14 projects totaling more than $4 million (~35 million NOK).

My research findings have been featured in peer review journals, on webinars, at conferences, and presentations for local, state, and national government agencies. My current research program can be broken into three separate streams: mental health care and services, Alzheimer’s disease care management and caregiver supports, and health policy and program evaluation. I have published 13 peer reviewed journal articles and numerous foundation and government reports which have been translated into policy and practice. I have authored and edited several books, chapters, and edited volumes. In particular, I was a co-editor of Health Policy: Crisis and Reform in the US Health Care Delivery System (7th Ed., 2016), which has sold over 5,500 copies.
