Henrik Siepelmeyer

PhD Research Fellow

I am a PhD Research Fellow here at the School of Business and Law at UiA and visiting PhD Researcher at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. My research is on sustainable consumption behavior with a focus on behaviors linked to waste and recycling.

I am especially interested in social influence and how to best achieve sustainable change, including research on interventions and field experiments to foster more environmentally friendly consumption decisions and pro-social behaviors. In this context, I also like to work with novel digital technologies and IoT systems to develop new transformative services aimed at increasing well-being for humans and the planet. I believe in close collaboration with practice partners and the civil society to conduct transdisciplinary research that creates both academic insights and practical value.

Besides my academic work, I have also co-founded the German Start-Up ‘plietsch’, which makes sustainable grocery shopping accessible, simple and affordable for a broad customer group by integrating a section of package-free, organic, regional products into full-range supermarkets. This allows ‘regular’ customers to integrate sustainable purchase decisions into their everyday consumption habits, supports local sustainable agriculture and value creation, and prevents waste in the first place.

My background is interdisciplinary: I hold a MA degree in Leadership & Organization from Malmö University in Sweden and a BSc degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from Leuphana University in Germany, with additional courses linked to waste treatment technologies from Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). I conduct research at the intersection of sustainability sciences, psychology and behavioral economics and am always happy to be contacted by like-minded people (in- and outside of academia!) - so please reach out!
